Scenario Initialization

initScenario Overview

The initScenario function is the primary way to set up test scenarios. It handles:

  • Customer creation (with optional Stripe test clock)
  • Product creation (with unique prefixes for isolation)
  • Entity creation
  • Product attachments
  • Time advancement

Setup Functions (s.*)

s.customer({ ... })

Configure the customer being created.

s.customer({

Important: testClock defaults to true. You don't need to pass it unless disabling.

s.products({ ... })

Define products to create for this test.

s.products({

  customerIdsToDelete?: [customerId], // Clean up before creating

Products are automatically prefixed with customerId for test isolation.

  • If you define products.pro({ id: "pro" }) and customerId is "my-test", the actual product ID becomes "pro_my-test".

s.entities({ ... })

Auto-generate entities for multi-tenant testing.

Action Functions (s.*)

Actions execute in order. You can interleave different action types.

s.attach({ ... })

Attach a product to customer or entity.

s.cancel({ ... })

Cancel a product subscription.

Advance Stripe test clock. Multiple calls are cumulative.

Product Configuration Rules

Product ID Usage

ALWAYS use product.id:

// GOOD
s.attach({ productId: pro.id })
s.cancel({ productId: pro.id })

// BAD - Don't use strings
s.attach({ productId: "pro" })  // Wrong!

Product Prefixing

Products are auto-prefixed with customerId:

The s.attach() handles this automatically when you use productId: pro.id.

Building Products

Use fixtures, add items as needed:

Prepaid and allocated items require options with quantity:

Setup vs Test Body

Rule: Put setup actions in initScenario.actions, keep only the behavior under test in the test body.

Ask: "What is the test actually testing?" Everything else is setup.

Benefits:

  • Clearer test intent - reader immediately sees what's being tested
  • Less verification boilerplate - no need to verify setup worked
  • Faster test writing - s.* builders handle common patterns

AutumnInt Generic Types (IMPORTANT)

ALWAYS use generic type parameters when calling AutumnInt methods to get proper type safety:

Test Clock Timing

Critical: Date.now() doesn't change when using test clocks. Use advancedTo:
